Tips on Better Travel Photos
When you travel around the world, taking pictures can be tricky. Especially if you are a solo traveler, it can be difficult to capture photos in general. It is difficult, awkward and at times embarrassing (if you want it to be) to take your self-portraits. Therefore, I decided to put together a list of tips to keep in mind when diving into the travel photography world.
Know your angles
When it comes to capturing scenery and landmarks, it is safe to say focus on the symmetry and angle. It is satisfying when you get a perfectly centered, level photo that has great symmetry. It makes all the difference when you have nailed the perfect angle on a shot!
Wake up early, stay up late
This is a must for multiple reasons. No one wants to picture with a bunch of tourists milling around. So if you’re going to want a good picture without a bunch of tourists you’ll need to opt for a time with the least amount of traffic. These times are generally going to be early in the morning or later in the evening. Another key point is when taking self-portraits: it is a lot easier to set up your tripod and go snap a few photos when there are not people around to knock your equipment or worse steal it.
Ignore everyone
Of course, this is a lot easier said than done, and I get it. But if you want to take a successful self-portrait it is the key ingredient. Who cares if you feel silly? What is the likelihood you will ever see those people again? If someone wants to judge you for trying to capture a moment-let them. It will not affect your life in any way. It may feel weird at first but you will get used to it and it get easier trust me.
Tipod + Timer = Your Best Friends
First off, shout out to “Melislay” for getting me a tripod for Christmas, it has changed my life forever. If your camera has a flip around screen, your life going to be even more easier because you can see where you are in the frame. If your camera does not have the option you’ll definitely need to make the adjustments prior to ensure the zoom, focus and all that are set up with the tripod. Once you have done that, set your timer for 10 seconds and go stand in your spot. I promise you this is my holy grail. Sometimes the tripod comes with a remote so you can click at your leisure.
Burst Mode!
Using burst mode is the best thing invented. This will take a ton of pictures if you are looking for a great candid. Many question how my husband and I do our infamous jumping portraits and it is always burst mode to the rescue. It is reliable because even though it can take 20 pictures I am sure one of them should turn out decent.
